This “Branded” work is a digital-original print on fabric. This image has also been used to create unique monoprint-transfers on a salvaged fabrics.
To create the imagery I downloaded the application submitted by a pharmaceutical company in their unsuccessful attempt to patent the BRCA1 gene (containing my genetic mutation). Using digital tools I then extracted a portion of my genetic code from the patent application, and collaged it with a watercolor-pencil nude drawing.
This series is being developed for an interactive multimedia art installation currently titled "For Our Own Good: How My Life-saving Surveillance Destroyed Democracy," where visitors will be invited to navigate issues surrounding genetic surveillance and medical privacy.
