In my ongoing “Letters From My Father” series I re-create imaginary worlds of childhood from adult chaos. Objects and letters sent to me as a child by my estranged father form the metaphorical (and sometimes literal) background for these works.
Working back and forth between traditional and digital media, the first images in this series were developed as limited edition digital originals—they don’t exist in a tangible form until printed. More recent images in this series are unique collages, often begun by printing fragments from this first series onto paper or fabric. Using primarily non-adhesive methods (www.talbot1.com), I collage these prints then often draw and paint upon the “final” actual collages with watercolor pencil, and will become digitized and reused as source imagery. Also in this series are unique monoprint-transfer variations of the collages. You can also see a few more of the source images in the Painting and Drawing portfolios.
